The Big Girl Handbook

Welcome everyone one, to another category on my blog ‘The Big Girl Handbook’.

Unlike other categories, I felt like this particular one deserved an introduction. I got the idea to add this category late last year. I wanted to start having a conversation that in Nigeria, I hardly heard anyone talk about— what’s life like as a ‘big’ girl? You can call it whatever you’d like; fat, big-boned, fleshy, chubby but I like to refer to it as being ‘big’.

I’ve always been a ‘big’ girl. As far back as I can remember I’ve had this belly, these thighs and  my jiggly arms. Oh, and did I mention the stretch-marks? Yeah, those too. I’m hoping to emphasize with this new category, that beauty is not a size, but a feeling. I can be perfectly sexy with a tummy and big thighs.

I’m not gonna pretend like it’s not a struggle, loving myself and my body unconditionally but, I’m working on it. That’s another reason why I decided to start this category. I want to help people like me find their confidence and feel good in their bodies no matter the shape or size. Even if it inspires just one person, I’d be completely satisfied.

I am not my hair

I am not this skin

I am the soul that lives within
