Nothing is more exciting than exploring a new country. That’s exactly why it’s important to take all the right steps to ensure that your trip runs as smoothly as possible. One mistake can turn what should be a fun and exciting experience to a frustrating one.
Here are 5 tips you can follow to help make sure you’re trip abroad is as enjoyable as can be.
Do your research
If you’re visiting that particular country for the first time, its important you at least google it to understand the culture and customs of the place. You don’t want to be that foreigner that has to apologize for their behavior or how their dressed every step of the way.
For instance in Dubai, public displays of affection are frowned upon, whereas in America it is not. These are important things to have in mind when visiting either of these countries.
Planning and research go hand in hand. You’ve figured out the answers to the basic questions of travel like ‘what’s the weather like over there?’ but you’re yet to properly plan for your time there. Where will you stay and what will you do while you’re there? This is where planning comes in. Whether you do it yourself or get the help of a travel agent, planning what hotel you’ll stay or what tourists sites you’ll visit beforehand is setting yourself up for a hassle-free fun time.
What you have in your closet might not be appropriate for your destination. For most countries outside of Africa there are 4 seasons (fall, winter, spring, and summer), and each season comes with it’s appropriate clothing. This is exactly why research is important; you don’t want to get caught wearing summer clothes in the cold of winter
Make Sure Your Loved Ones Can Reach You
Just because you’re literally on the other side of the world doesn’t mean you have to lose contact with your mum. Just put your phone on data roaming and voila, it’s like you never left the country. Thank God for technology right? Data roaming comes with its own set of charges however, which vary per network provider. If you have questions about it you should contact your network’s customer service.
Don’t forget those important items
Your passport is high on the list of things you should never forget when traveling but there’s so much more to that list that could just as easily ruin your entire traveling experience. Your medication, glasses, sanitary products, your camera or even your laptop. It could really be anything, whatever it is just make sure its packed and secured in your suitcase
