Insecure Season 4 Recap – Plus Recreating Issa’s Hairstyles

Before we get into today’s post I have one important question for you– Are you Team Lawrence or Team Nathan. Let me know in the comments (hint; Team Lawrence is the correct answer)

If you are yet to watch Insecure Season 4, this is the part of the blog post where you skedaddle.

I’m just going to go ahead and say it, this has to be Insecure’s best season yet. One of the things about Insecure I’ve always loved has been how relatable it is and the main themes of this season (friendship breakups and rekindling old flames) were seriously hitting close to home.

Molly & Issa Drama

Watching the tension between Molly and Issa rise from episode one to ten was amazing to watch. We’ve all either been a Molly or Issa in our friendship dynamic and that on its own sparked so much conversation.

That being said, I thought it was ridiculous that Molly didn’t help Issa because she was ‘protecting her relationship’. Imagine being willing to watch your friend fail because of man (man you met through her btw). Couldn’t be me.

Whatever the case might be, episode 10 left things off a little open ended. Looked like they might end up being friends again, but is it worth it? I don’t think so. Molly is toxic and I don’t think she’s going to change. But I guess we’ll find out in season 5.

Recreation 1

I tell my friends all the time that I feel like I’m Issa and Issa is me, lol. So I decided to recreate some of her hairstyles from this season. Shoutout to Felicia Leatherwood, the the hairstylist on Insecure by the way. Its refreshing seeing a black woman sport her natural hair in such cute dos.

This look was from episode 4 and it features a mix of ‘didi’ braids and an afro/curly ponytail. I played around with Deviant from Curlfit for an added pop of color! You can purchase it here.

Issa & Lawrence’s Romance

I cannot fully express in words how grateful I was to finally see these two together. I know I wasn’t the only one that was full on love eyes at their romance montage in episode 9. Their chemistry is undeniable.

The main thing I loved about their whole situation was that they finally had a real-ass conversation about why Issa cheated and that they both took responsibility for their relationship crumbling instead of appointing blame. Talk about maturity!

Of course while we were all on an Issa and Lawrence high the writers of the show thought ‘how can we fuck shit up’ and made Canola Oil (also known as Condola) pregnant, breaking the hearts of millions including Issa.

I don’t know how they’re going to salvage this. With Lawrence already moving to San Francisco and Condolences (yes that’s intentional. lol) being pregnant there are more than enough reasons for Issa and Lawrence to split. Do you think Issa should start over with Nathan? or maybe meet someone new? I for one think if there’s a chance for her and Lawrence she should take it, but is it worth it? Tell me what you think in the comments

Recreation 2

Twins? Lol. I don’t have much experience with styling hair but whenever I watch Insecure it inspires me to do more than just packing my hair up into a bun. This look was inspired by episode one ‘Lowkey Feelin’ Myself’ which for the record was how I felt rocking this hairstyle

Season 4 was well worth the 2 year wait and I’m super excited to see what they do in Season 5!

Thank you for reading. Till next time

Selena Gomez Peace
Peace!
